Lysonic™ Inks for Epson® and Encad Novajet® Printers

The Lysonic™ CYMK sets of inks are formulated from four purified extremely light fast dyes which can be incorporated into various water based ink jet platforms such as for thermal drop on demand (also known as Bubble Jet™), piezo (such as Epson®) and hertz (continuous ink jet such as Iris® variable drop size) printers. The differences between the ink parameters which enable the fluids to function within the particular print head essentially disappear once the ink has dried onto the print media, so that fading results obtained through different printer technologies but onto the same media should be similar. In essence, the dried ink solids are the same; only the distribution of the dyes will differ according to the specific print method.


Accelerated light-fast tests carried out at Lyson’s laboratories in the UK, using high intensity daylight lamps, have indicated that it is the case that interplatform comparisons can indeed be made between the ink sets if the media is the same. A more lengthy investigation into the image permanence of the Lysonic ink sets is being carried out by Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc. of Grinnell, IA. Results recently published by Wilhelm using prints obtained from an Iris printer have yielded a predicted display life of 65 to 75 years on Somerset Velvet fine art paper. Henry Wilhelm is considered to be the authority with regard to indoor fade testing of fine art and photographic images, such that the International Association of Fine Art Digital Printers (IAFADP) orient their ink and media longevity statements according to Wilhelm’s findings.
